Synopsis:-
Kōsei Arima, a famous fourteen-year-old piano prodigy, becomes famous after winning several music competitions. After his mother Saki dies, Kōsei experiences a mental breakdown, unable to hear the sound of his piano. Two years later, Kōsei spends time with friends Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryōta Watari, but he never touches the piano. He meets Kaori Miyazono, a 14-year-old violinist who helps Kōsei return to playing the piano and reveals his love for her.
Kaori's health deteriorates, and she attempts a risky surgery to play with Kōsei again. While playing in the finals of the Eastern Japan Piano Competition, Kōsei sees Kaori's spirit accompanying him and realizes she has died during the surgery. At her funeral, Kaori's parents reveal that she was aware of her impending death and became more free-spirited to avoid taking her regrets to Heaven. She confesses her love for Kōsei since watching him perform at a concert when she was five, inspiring her to play the violin so she could play with him one day. Kaori fabricated her feelings towards Ryōta to get closer to Kōsei without hurting Tsubaki, who harbored affection for Kōsei. She then confesses her love for him, and Tsubaki comforts Kōsei and promises to be by his side. Kaori leaves behind a picture of herself as a child, with Kōsei in the background.

Kōsei Arima is a former child prodigy in playing piano, known as the "Human Metronome" due to his mechanical accuracy. After his mother Saki's death, Kōsei loses interest in the piano and gives up. However, two years later, he takes up the piano again after Kaori Miyazono persuades him to become her accompanist. Influenced by her emotional and unrestrained playing style, Kōsei falls in love with her.
Kaori Miyazono is Tsubaki's classmate, a free-spirited violinist who has been criticized for her unwillingness to adhere strictly to the score but is popular with audiences. She meets Kōsei when she asks Tsubaki to set her up with Ryōta. As their friendship grows, Kaori convinces Kōsei to play the piano again, first as her accompanist and later in a piano competition. However, Kaori has a medical condition and undergoes an extremely risky surgery, leading to her death during the operation.
Tsubaki Sawabe is Kōsei's childhood friend and next-door neighbor, who treats him like a little brother. Tsubaki attempts to get Kōsei to play the piano again, but initially denies her feelings for him but eventually falls in love with him. Ryōta Watari, Kōsei's and Tsubaki's childhood friend, accepts Kōsei's feelings for Kaori and gives him advice.
Takeshi Aiza, a pianist of the same age as Kōsei, wants to surpass Kōsei on the piano since watching him play at a young age. Emi Igawa, Takeshi's younger sister, pretends to ask for tutelage from Hiroko to scout Kōsei's rival. Nagi Aiza, Takeshi's younger sister, becomes Kōsei's student.
Saki Arima, Kōsei's mother, demands Kōsei practice the piano score to perfection and often beats him up severely for making mistakes or not performing well during his concerts. Saki did not initially plan to make her son a pianist but after realizing his talent and discovering she has a terminal illness, she decides to make him a pianist.
